What's new for August

War Comes HomeThe War Comes Home, an Internet radio exclusive coming in mid-August: KPFA brings you the first person accounts of those whose lives have been permanently changed by the US occupation of Iraq - US soldiers, Iraqi civilians, their families, our societies. The first stories in the series, produced by Aaron Glantz, feature the voices of American soldiers on their return to the US. KPFA Remembers Pete Hunter

Pete HunterKPFA volunteer, contributor, and activist Pete Hunter has recently passed away after a long battle with cancer. Apart from Pete's incredible dedication as a phone volunteer at KPFA, Pete was also interested in activist video media, as well as Alternative Fuel Vehicles. "Pete loved KPFA and everyone who was willing to stand up and save our country, the world and the animal kingdom as well. Pete walked his talk and will be missed," said Pete's friend, Jovita Bazan-Lopez.

A public service will be held in the Olympia Trailer Park in Vallejo, at 1101 Enterprise Street (cross street is Yolano) on Sunday August 26th at 6pm.

a shrub near our transmitterA group of KPFA volunteers who help with maintenance at our East Bay transmitter site are asking for listener help in identifying some of the shrubs around the site. They would like to replace some of the invasive brush at the site with California Native plants!

We have posted photos of the plants online. Here's the challenge:
(1) Can you identify the plants in the photos?
(2) If so, can you tell which plants are native to California?

If you think you can help, email your plant identifications to Eden Tosch at: eden[at]kpfa.org
